Jeff Henne, M.A., President and CEO

Jeff has overall responsibility for strategic planning, business development, and the corporate operations of THG. He directs research projects and oversees our practice areas, bringing over thirty years of hands-on experience in every aspect of market research. He has designed and directed hundreds of quantitative research studies over the years, some involving tens of thousands of interviews. Early in his career, he was part of the team that directed the first study of HIV-related attitudes among gay men for the San Francisco Department of Public health, and continues to conduct new research addressing AIDS prevention and treatment. Jeff has an equal depth of experience designing and managing corporate, government and not for profit data collection studies. Jeff is known for his skill in interviewing individuals about sensitive health issues in both focus group and in-depth interview settings He has conducted over 2,000 focus groups in the last ten years. He is responsible for building THG’s exceptional reputation for recruiting difficult-to-find populations. To better serve our east coast clients, Jeff divides his time between San Francisco and New York. Jeff earned his M.A. in Political Science from Rutgers University and B.A. in Political Science from Rutgers College. He is active in the American Association for Public Opinion Research (AAPOR).

Melissa Shepherd, Senior Vice President, Strategic Communications

Melissa leads THG’s strategic communications practice. She has been engaged in health communications, social marketing and stakeholder outreach for over thirty years. Prior to joining THG, she directed HIV/AIDS communications for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), most recently as the Associate Director for Communications in CDC’s Division of HIV/AIDS Prevention. Melissa’s twenty-five years at the CDC included overall responsibility for media and stakeholder outreach, managing the National AIDS Hotline and Clearinghouse, overseeing the CDC’s HIV web design and content, translating research, and managing reputation, relationships, and issues. Melissa also served for over five years as a Visiting Instructor at Emory University’s Rollins School of Public Health where she taught masters level courses in Risk and Health Communications. Before joining the CDC, Melissa was the Field Director for Research & Decisions, a San Francisco-based market Research firm, where she managed the data collection for dozens of quantitative research projects. Melissa holds a B.A. in Journalism and Marketing from the University of Georgia’s College of Mass Communication, and is a graduate of the Burke Institute’s Marketing Research Management Training Program.

Judith Brown Meyers, Ph.D., Executive Director, Strategic Planning

Judith has responsibility for the Strategy practice area. She has been a leader in market research and strategic planning for over thirty-five years. Judith has far-reaching experience in strategic consulting and research and process facilitation and specializes in organizational change, program development and innovative problem solving. She was a partner at Selvin/Brown, a campaign management and public affairs consulting firm; president and owner of Research and Decisions Corporation, a full service public opinion and market research firm; and president and owner of the Judith Brown Company, a strategy consulting company. Judith earned her doctorate from the Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences and her M.A. from American University’s School of International Studies.

Patrick Thompson, M.S.W., Director, Research

Patrick has worked in the market research field for over fifteen years. Prior to joining THG, he was a Research Manager at VISA Inc., a Senior Associate at Greenwald & Associates, and a Research Manager at the Travel Industry Association. His has experience in quantitative and qualitative research in various fields including healthcare, financial services, insurance, non-profit, and travel and tourism. Patrick is a licensed clinical social worker with 13 years of experience conducting assessments and psychotherapy with diverse populations and issues including gay/lesbian/bisexual/transgender, HIV/AIDS, and substance abuse/recovery. He continues to work with clients in San Francisco. Patrick received his Masters in Social Work from the Catholic University of America and his B.B.A. from the College of William and Mary.
