The Henne Group's Select Research Recruitment Panel

As our personal interactions have become increasingly virtual, we can now conduct outreach to more respondents than ever before. However, while our reach has expanded greatly in the last few years, the opportunity for bots and scammers seeking to profit off studies with incentives has also increased. As a result, THG has continued to find ways to identify and eliminate bots and scammers, monitoring new responses, and then cleaning and removing suspicious participants. Measures that are monitored include IP address, country of origin, past survey activity, as well as open-ended responses.

The Henne Group (THG) panel database hosts diverse populations ranging from medical professionals, small business owners, LGBTQIA+ adults, those living with HIV, and individuals with rare medical conditions. “Our panelists are as real as they get,” says Sergio Garcia, Project Manager at THG. “Our surveys are all about addressing a purpose, so we don’t just churn them out. We find our panelists by reaching out to real organizations. If we are unable to recruit based on our panel alone, our team strategizes, thinking out of the box to ensure recruitment quotas are met.”

In addition to improvements in data security, the design of our panel questionnaire has also been modified to ensure inclusivity and sensitivity to the diverse needs of our respondents. "We’ve added questions about identifying pronouns as well as more options for the expression of gender identity and sexual orientation,” says Scott Schwartz, Data Manager at THG. “Our panelists are the heart of our research, and we want to make sure that we address all their needs. We consistently look for new ways to improve our research and there’s no better way than to start at the source of our data with our panel.” THG plans to further improve its panel by launching new initiatives starting in 2023.
